Oak Cliff Yesterday

I really like heading out to Planet Fitness in Oak Cliff.  The staff are always friendly and it’s always clean. I always enjoy my time there!

This season I’ve got into routine training in the gym, and making the lifestyle adjustments that I hope that I can keep; instead of trying out various home workouts and diets that I just know that I will struggle to adhere to. Among these methods, I have found that the best for me personally, as most others do, is strength training.

As this website will hopefully continue to grow. the subjects that I touch on and write about will expand… like right now I’m talking about health, fitness and such things! So at present, one of my favorite things to do is either take a jog around Oak Cliff or head to the gym for one hour each day and force my muscles to get working!

One thing that you might not know about me is that after exercising, I love to ensure I’m looking after my skin and body. After all, I’m exercising to accomplish some body objectives, and I do not wish to sacrifice other areas of my health to attain this; it ought to come as a complete package.

So when I’m working out, this exercise can put a lot of force onto the wrist and hands, which can make them vulnerable to accidents and can cause severe damage to the hands. Because of this, I’d always advocate using suitable women’s gym gloves to protect the hands from wear and tear.  You just need one gym sessions with a pair and you will realize how badly the weightlifting bar will tear up your hands.

I usually head over to GNC to get a couple of supplements too.  Unfortunately, the nearest one is a little south of Oak Cliff in Wolf Creek.  The guys here are great and helped me in selecting the correct supplements.  I recommend them.

Founded on San Jacinto Day, April 21, 1931, as the biggest movie theatre in Dallas. Just the Majestic and the Palace Theaters in downtown Dallas surpassed the Texas’ potential of 2000 customers. It had been known as the primary theatre in Dallas to be assembled especially for motion pictures with sound, and it also featured a pipe organ instrument which was played regularly. The first week’s schedule included the Fox Movietone News, a Buster Keaton show and a Mickey Mouse animation. Cost of entry was 35, 25, or 10 cents depending on which show you wanted to see.

When the theatre opened, it was quite a sight. With original hint and marquis. The glowing lights and Italian Renaissance front led some to tag West Jefferson as a great “Amusement Way.”

I’ve been extremely busy so far this year with fixing the harm to my son’s home from the mudslides. I am finally done with this and realized that it was time to update some of this info on the website.

So I thought that I would write a post about the local Oak Cliff running group my new weighted vest that I use for running around Oakcliff in.

The group meets weekly at Westmoreland Park before heading out for a running session.  Matt heads up the group and you can always spot him due to him sporting a weighted vest.

As if running in the Texas heat wasn’t enough, this guy likes to take it to the extreme by adding an extra bunch of weight onto the run.

A weighted vest is just a vest that’s constructed from thick material which has little pockets around it in which it is possible to slide in little sandbags, miniature steel bars, and other tiny weights.

The overall goal (and Matt’s intent) is to utilize the weighted vest in adding additional weight to high-intensity workouts, which in this case is jogging.  He says that he also sometimes wears is around the house, which is kinda crazy in my opinion.

While not quite as large as the Oak Cliff Christian Church, the stone construction on Windomere north is a special construction worth saving. At least it is doubtful the DISD will be able to get the land (sealing its hopelessness in my view) because the newly updated Greiner Middle School is located across the road.

The Winnetka Congregational Church was established about 1914. In 1915 they had a Sunday School attendance of approximately 60 and initially held their services at a one-story frame construction down the road from the current church. They termed themselves “An Independent Bible Church” and have been allied with the Dallas Theological Seminary (founded from the above mentioned Lewis Sperry Chafer) along with the Dallas Bible Institute, and 8 of 10 Sundays you can discover an itinerant minister presenting the sermon. A few of the preachers throughout the years comprised J.W. Logan (possibly the 1st), Allen Crabtree from the early 1920s, Ray Fortna at 1929, T. Warwick Brandon at 1933, W.W. Orr at 1937, along with Floyd W. Shiery, that resigned in 1943 to become a military chaplain.

The ground was divided for the present 4600 square foot church in October 1929. It was created by architect T. J. Galbraith and constructed by local builders Eckert-Burton at a price of $33,000. The 46×100 foot construction would comprise of 14 rooms, a central auditorium, and a also basement.

The last bit of information that I could locate about the Winntka Congregational Church was October 1955, under Pastor Estil Schale. For at least the past ten years that the church was called El Buen Samaritano Methodist Church.
